Audi’s Q5 lineup just got a major upgrade. The new Audi Q5 e-hybrid models offered in both SUV and Sportback form are redefining what it means to drive an efficient, performance-ready plug-in hybrid. Combining a powerful TFSI petrol engine with a significantly larger high-voltage battery, these PHEVs offer electric-only ranges of up to 100 kilometres (WLTP), smoother hybrid driving, and smarter energy recuperation.
Two Power Options, One Versatile Package
Buyers can choose between two system power outputs: 220 kW or 270 kW. Both variants feature a 2.0 TFSI engine paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor and Audi’s quattro ultra all-wheel-drive system. The more powerful 270 kW version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, while the 220-kW version completes the sprint in 6.2 seconds.
Top speed across both variants is capped at 250 km/h, making them some of the most dynamic plug-in hybrids in the midsize premium SUV segment.
Bigger Battery, More Electric Driving
A major highlight is the new high-voltage battery with 25.9 kWh gross (20.7 kWh net) capacity a 45% improvement over the previous model. That translates to an impressive electric-only range of up to 100 kilometers, depending on conditions and driving style.
Charging times have also improved. Thanks to 11 kW AC charging capability, the battery can be fully charged in as little as 2.5 hours when connected to a suitable wall box or public charger.
Smarter Hybrid Management
Audi has fine-tuned the hybrid control system for better efficiency and user control. Two modes are available: “EV” for full-electric driving and “hybrid” for smart energy management. A new digital slider allows drivers to set their preferred battery charge level, letting the system reserve electric energy for later use, like driving in city centers.
Regenerative braking is more efficient too. The system can recover up to 88 kW during deceleration. In EV mode, drivers can adjust three levels of regen using the paddle shifters, giving more control over energy recovery.
Premium Comfort Meets Practical Tech
Standard equipment has been upgraded across the board. The 220-kW variant includes 3-zone climate control and S sports suspension. The 270-kW model gets LED lighting all around, a premium MMI infotainment system with Audi App Store integration, SONOS audio, and a cooled 15W wireless charging pad.
Interior flexibility is a standout. The rear seat bench plus is standard on both SUV and Sportback, offering adjustable seat angles and sliding functionality to balance passenger comfort and boot space. Cargo capacity ranges from 433 to 1,358 liters depending on seat configuration.
Efficient Energy Strategy
Beyond the numbers, Audi has focused on optimizing how energy is used. Predictive Efficiency Assistant (PEA) factors in navigation data, speed limits, terrain, and even traffic to decide when to switch drive modes or recover energy.
In hybrid mode, the Q5 tries to prioritize electric driving at lower speeds, using the petrol engine more during highway runs. The system can also charge the battery using the engine, but only at speeds above 65 km/h to ensure efficiency.
Refined Design, Inside and Out

Visually, the Q5 e-hybrid keeps its athletic stance with design elements from Audi’s sportier S line. LED headlights, full-width tail lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, and subtle aerodynamic enhancements are part of the package.
Inside, the cabin feels modern and intuitive. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus and a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen put navigation, media, and hybrid settings at your fingertips. Upholstery options include premium leather or synthetic leather, wood inlays, and ambient lighting.
The PHEV That Doesn’t Compromise
Whether you’re after performance, electric driving range, or everyday versatility, the new Audi Q5 e-hybrid delivers. It’s a plug-in hybrid that doesn’t feel like a compromise and that alone sets it apart in a competitive segment.
Production is underway in San José Chiapa, Mexico, with European deliveries beginning mid-2025. For drivers worldwide seeking an elegant, smart, and future-ready SUV, the Audi Q5 e-hybrid might just be the perfect fit.
